Tortellini’s story begins in a place no animal should ever be: alone on the side of the road, with two broken legs. One of her injuries, a femoral head fracture, required major intervention. Thanks to swift action, she received lifesaving surgery, including an amputation and a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), to repair her injuries and give her the chance to thrive.
Tortellini’s journey is not unique. Each year, an estimated 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, and among them are thousands of special needs animals who require extra care and medical support. Yet these are often the very pets who are overlooked or left behind.
